The Wellness Room: How to Design a Relaxation Space
Start this year by treating yourself and designing your own wellness room. A wellness room is dedicated to creating a relaxing and peaceful environment for you. It can be anything from a yoga room to an art studio. It’s a space in which you can unwind and focus on yourself and stimulate positivity. There are many things that help make a wellness room a place of tranquility- it has to have the right lighting, it has to be clean and organized, and it has to be a place in your home with the least amount of distractions. Here are 5 tips on how to design a relaxation space.Â
List your intentions.Â
A wellness room is a place where you go to recenter yourself and focus on things that make you happy, encourages positivity, and most importantly a place that helps you relax. It can be an art room, a yoga room, an exercise room, a reading room, or a hobby room – so list your intentions and create a wellness room that is right for you.Â
Find the right space.Â
Choose a location where you know you won’t encounter everyday distractions. Your wellness space should be a place where you can focus on you. It is very easy to get swallowed up by everything else that is going on in your life, from work, to kids, and social engagements – so use your wellness room as a reminder to take time for you. Â
Various lighting options.Â
Layered lights and natural lighting can help you control the mood in your relaxation space. If it’s a yoga room, include dimmers to maintain the right ambiance. A hobby room needs bright ceiling lights and task lighting options.Â
Incorporate indoor plants.Â
Indoor plants improve the air quality and they also help reduce stress. No matter what your wellness room is being used for – yoga, reading, creating art, writing, etc. – include indoor plants to stimulate relaxation and positivity.Â
 Keep it organized.Â
A wellness room should be clean, clutter-free, and organized. If it’s a yoga room, include storage bins to store all your yoga accessories, like mats, ropes, blocks, and blankets when you’re not using them. The last thing you want is to walk into your yoga room and see all your yoga props scattered all over the space. If it’s a hobby room, organizers are a must so you can properly store all your supplies when you’re done using them. Walking into a messy room can definitely stress you out and there is no stress allowed in a wellness room.
