5 Simple Closet Organization Ideas

Organizing your closet can be a daunting task, especially if you haven’t explored the deep dark corners in years. There are many space saving tricks you can do to your closet to make it more clean and efficient. For example, hanging your closet rods higher than you normally would will free up more space on the bottom for another rod, a dresser, or a space to display your shoes. It’s the first step that’s always hard to take, but once you get started, you’ll have a clean and organized closet in no time! Here a few more closet organizing tips to help you get started:

Donate your clothes.

First, donate all the clothes you don’t need. This is the most important step when organizing your closet. Get rid of the clothes that you haven’t worn in a year. Make a list of organizations you would like to donate to so when you’re finished sorting out your clothes you can bring them to the place right away. This way they don’t just sit in the back of your closet or in the trunk of your car for months.

Organize by the season.

Organizing your closet according to season is essential when you’re working with a smaller closet. You can place your out of season clothes in long flat storage bins and tuck them underneath your bed or stack them in the garage.

If you have the space, include a dresser inside your closet. 

Dressers make great storage for smaller items like undergarments, socks, pajamas, bathing suits, t-shirts, etc. The top of the dresser is also prime space to keep your jewelry or an excuse to decorate your closet with fresh flowers and a couple of framed pictures. Use trays to organize your jewelry or display your fancy fragrances.

Hang your closet rods higher. 

One of the most clever closet design tips is to hang your closet rods a little higher than you initially would. This way, you can hang your longer garments without having them drag on the floor and you have space for a second rod on the bottom to hang shorter garments, like pants, shorts, skirts, and shirts. Or you can use that space to put a dresser, shoe rack, or laundry basket.
