Where to Hang Your Chandelier – A Room by Room Guide
Chandeliers provide ambient lighting and also enhance the look and feel of any room, even a bathroom. The size of the chandelier depends on the size of the room. The rule of thumb for the size of chandelier in a room, except the dining room, is to add the dimensions of the space (width and depth) in feet, then convert the answer in inches. The answer in inches should be the width of your chandelier. The size of a chandelier hanging above the dining table should be 12″narrower than the width of the table. Here are 5 design tips on hanging a chandelier according to each room.
Bedroom
A chandelier in the bedroom creates a romantic ambience. The chandelier can be hung in the middle of the room or above the bed. It should hang at least 7′ above the floor.Â
Entryway
An entryway chandelier is a sophisticated design choice and a lovely way to greet your guests. Hang your chandelier in the middle of the entryway. If there is an entryway table, hang the chandelier above the middle of the entryway table.Â
Bathroom
Hanging a chandelier in a bathroom is a luxurious upgrade for any bathroom, big or small. First and foremost, make sure the chandelier is made for a damp and humid environment. For safety reasons, the chandelier should be hung at least 3′ away from the edge of the sink or tub/shower and 8′ above the sink or tub’s edge.Â
Living Room
Hanging a chandelier in your living room is a great way to incorporate ambient lighting into your space. Hang the chandelier in the middle of the living room or above the center of the coffee table. Make sure there is 7′ clearance between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor, so nobody bumps their head on it.Â
Dining Room
Chandelier lighting in a dining room creates a beautiful ambiance, especially during a dinner party. Hang your chandelier in the center of the dining table, not the center of the room. The height of the chandelier should be at least 36″ above the top of the dining table.Â
