Design Tips Nature Outdoor Small Space
Turn Your Tiny Patio into a Perfectly Petite Garden Space
Don’t let a small outdoor space deter you from having a beautiful luscious garden. Gardens come in all shapes and sizes. There are a variety of containers, like railing planter boxes, vertical wall planters, planter boxes, and ceramic plant pots, that work well in small space gardens. There are just a few things you need to consider before planting in your small space garden.
Sunlight
Do you get enough sunlight in your small gardening space? Many plants need at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight. Your plants will be happier if your small gardening space receives full direct sunlight at least a 8 hours a day
Choose Plants Wisely
For a small gardening space, you have to be mindful when choosing your plants. You don’t want to plant large vegetables or fruit that can take up a majority of your small space. In order to have a variety of plants, grow smaller plants like herbs, strawberries, annual flowers, and leafy greens. Avoid pumpkins, tomatoes, and squash, which can easily overrun your small space.
Weight
Make sure your small space can handle the weight – especially if you’re gardening on an apartment balcony. Containers filled with soil are heavy and adding water to it will make it even heavier. Consider the weight of your plants if you’re gardening on a roof or balcony.
Containers
If you’re a renter, easy to move containers are great for a small gardening space. When you move, you don’t have to worry about having to leave your plants behind. Avoid planting them in black plastic containers because they tend to heat up faster and dry out the soil quicker
Water Source
Especially if your garden will be on a balcony or rooftop, you’ll want easy access to water. You’ll want to avoid carrying a heavy watering can up or down a flight of steps or through your living room to water. Hopefully your kitchen or bathroom will be close enough to your garden. so you can purchase a hose that can connect to the faucet sink.
