Boost Your Happiness Using Vastu Shastra Design Principles
Vastu Shastra is an Indian system of architecture that works with directional alignments and nature to create a healthy and positive living space. Some architects and interior designers use Vastu Shastra as a guideline when building or designing a home. You can also use Vastu Shastra’s basic principles to inspire a more positive and harmonious living environment. Here are ways to boost the positive energy in the 5 main living areas of your home.
Entrance
Ideally, when you step out of your entrance, you should be facing the north, east, or north-east direction. In Vastu Shastra, each direction symbolizes an aspect of life. North is for wealth and east is for overall success. Your main entrance door should be made out of strong and sturdy material. It should be clutter free, no shoes or coats in the way of the entrance. Whether you’re entering or exiting your home, there should be nothing visually and physically blocking the energy through the entryway.
Living Room
Typically, the living room is the place for friends and family to gather, so for a more welcoming and positive environment, it also needs to be clutter-free. Heavy furniture, like a sofa, should be kept in the west or southwest section of the room. Electronics should be placed in the southeast section.
Bedroom
To bring positive energy into your bedroom, the bed should be placed in the southwest corner of the room, with the bed facing west. Avoid placing a mirror in front of your bed, you should not see your own reflection when you’re on your bed because it can entice fights and disruption in your home. Include mood lighting and an essential oil diffuser in your space to create a sense of peace and relaxation in your bedroom.
Dining Room
The dining room should be closer to the kitchen and not the main entrance. It should be in the south, west, or east side of the home. The dining table should be a square or rectangle shape to encourage stability in the home. To create positive energy in the dining area, provide a well-lit space and display fresh flowers or plants on the dining table. Do not use chipped or damaged dishes to serve food. Avoid putting unnecessary items on the dining table, like mail, bags, keys, or groceries.
Kitchen
If you’re remodeling your kitchen, per Vastu Shastra, do not put your sink next to your stove. Since they are opposite elements, water and fire, their energies will repel each other. Place your sink in the northeast direction and your stove in the southeast position. If you’re not remodeling your kitchen, you can incorporate bright colors, like red, yellow, and orange into the design and it will help bring positivity into the space. Opened windows in the kitchen are also a great way to ward off any negative energy. Occasionally open your windows so you can have a constant flow of energy throughout the kitchen area.
