5 Fun Thanksgiving Traditions to Start with Your Family this Year
It’s never too late to start holiday traditions with your family. Thanksgiving is just a couple of days away and there are many creative and memorable Thanksgiving traditions you can start with your friends and family. From ornament exchanges, to the best pumpkin pie contest, create traditions that will make you and your family look forward to for years to come. Here are 5 fun Thanksgiving traditions to start with your family.Â
Host a Thanksgiving potluck.
Sometimes it’s just easier and more fun to host a Thanksgiving potluck. You can provide the main star of the show, but ask your guests to bring in their favorite dishes to share. If you don’t want to have duplicate dishes, send out a group email or text and ask your guests to let everyone know what dishes they plan to bring to dinner.
Ask your guests to bring canned foods to donate.
If you’re hosting a Thanksgiving dinner, ask your guests to bring canned foods to donate this holiday season. Decorate a woven basket or box where your guests can drop off their canned goods. If you can, display a print out with information on where you plan to donate the canned foods so they know where their donation is going
Organize an ornament exchange.
If you like to decorate for Christmas right after Thanksgiving, then the ornament exchange tradition is right up your alley. Ask your guests to participate in the ornament exchange by bringing in one ornament. Everyone who brings in an ornament can exchange it for another ornament someone else brought in. The exchange is up to you, you can pick numbers out of hat and whoever is number one can pick their ornament first and then so on. Or each ornament can be given a number, and the number you choose out of the hat, is the number of the ornament that you can take.Â
Go for a post dinner walk.Â
After your savory Thanksgiving meal, stretch out your legs and get some fresh air by going on a group walk. You can also take a walk before enjoying some desserts. By the time you get back from walking around the neighborhood, you’ll be ready for some pie and after dinner cocktails.Â
Watch a holiday movie.Â
Make it a Thanksgiving tradition to watch a marathon of Holiday movies to kickstart the holiday season. Put on a holiday movie in the background as your guests arrive or watch a holiday movie while everyone is having dessert.
